“And the king said, “Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan; he is crippled in his feet.”
“And Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, son of Saul, came to David and fell on his face and paid homage. And David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he answered, “Behold, I am your servant.” And David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan, and I will restore to you all the land of Saul your father, and you shall eat at my table always.” And he paid homage and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog such as I?”
“Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so will your servant do.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table, like one of the king’s sons.”
- Mephibosheth was called by King David. He was lame and undeserving of a place at the King’s table. He humbled himself, and with gratitude offered himself as a servant, to the one who offered him hope and security. God offers us a place at His table, just as David offered to Mephibosheth. In ourselves, we are undeserving and inadequate. Although we have nothing in ourselves to offer the King, He wants us to become part of His family, and eat at His table, as children of the King. Accept Jesus today as your Lord. Humbly bow before Him, ask for forgiveness of your sins, and turn away from a life of sin. Despite our flaws, God still offers a place at His table forever.
- Where will you dwell?
- Will you humble yourself, and in gratitude, offer yourself as a servant to the only One who can offer you eternal hope and security?
- Will you accept the Kingdom offered by Jesus, where there is a place at the table for you?
John 1:12 “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
