“And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire.”
- Notice that Peter followed Jesus on this night, but he followed Him at a distance. Also notice that by following Jesus at a distance, Peter became part of a group that were not followers of Christ. Peter’s denial of Christ became stronger each time he was asked about his affiliation with Jesus. Peter’s downfall happened quickly on this night. He went from standing with Christ at all cost to denying Him to all who asked. Do not let the crowd you are with dictate your relational walk with Christ. If you remain strongly connected to Christ, the crowd will not matter. You will either be one of the crowd, or a member of God’s great cloud of witnesses. Following Jesus at a distance may not always lead to denial, but it always shows lack of commitment.
- How close are you following Jesus and who do you hang out with?
