“On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?””
- Notice the tie of fear to lack of faith. If you have accepted Christ as your Savior there is never a reason to fear. Fear is always a result of a lack of faith. Death, illness, money, other people, the future, the past, and uncertainty, are all things that people fear. If we give every fear to Jesus, we can live in peace. Jesus said, “Let us go across to the other side”. If Jesus says that you are going to the other side, there will not be a storm that keeps that journey from happening. Jesus has promised all His followers that we will be together on the “other side” of this life. If Jesus said it would happen, it will happen. May we renew our faith in Him today. When Jesus is Lord, fear has no place in our lives.
- Have the storms in life made you doubt His Word?
- How reliable is the one you are traveling with and how much do you trust His guidance?
