“This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
- Many people know the Lord’s Prayer, whether they are church going people or not, and they can recite this prayer as if they mean it. The very next thing Jesus said after “This is how you pray”, is that if you forgive others, you will be forgiven, and if you do not forgive others, then you will not be forgiven. In other words, your forgiveness is dependent upon your forgiving. You cannot give what you do not have, and you cannot have what you do not give. Pray that God will adjust your heart today. We are loved unconditionally, and we should love others unconditionally. Often, the peace we are missing is a result of the forgiveness we fail to give. We are not responsible for others reactions, but we are responsible for ours. Christ in you, is what affects your love for others, regardless of what they have done. Do not be unforgiving and live in bondage, but forgive and live in freedom.
Are you harboring feelings against someone else that are keeping you from being forgiven?
