Philippians 2:3-4

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

  • Putting others above ourselves will eliminate much of our frustration, anger, pride, and disappointment, and it is likely that every one of our relationships will improve.  It seems like an easy choice but often the choice is pride and self over humility and others. Galatians 5 tells us that the entire law is summed up in one command; “Love your neighbor as yourself”. We must grasp this truth to live a life that is pleasing to God! A focus on others decreases pride and opens doors to share Jesus!
  • Are you willing to alter your schedule and plans to benefit others?
  • Are you determined to have a good day or to make sure those around you have a good day? (One way you are like most people and the other way you are like Jesus!)
  • How often are we more worried about ourselves than we are about others? How often was Jesus?
  • How many people do you know, including yourself, that look out for others and consider them above themselves? (I am not talking about random acts of kindness, but rather a daily life that takes time and effort away from themselves to exalt and assist others!)

James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”

Matthew 4:21-22

“Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.” When Jesus calls you to follow Him, your obedience to follow Him should be immediately. Whether He is calling you for the first time, to give your life over to Him, or you have been a Christian for a long time, do not delay in obeying the One who loves you and died for you. His love never fails, and His path is always right.

Matthew 4:18-20

“While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” The correct response to Jesus is, “Yes Lord”, and the correct time to respond is immediately. God will never tell you to get your life right and then come to me, but He does say to come to Him, and He will make your life right. A calling from God has one correct response, immediate obedience. Dear Lord, may we walk with You daily, remaining in the center of Your will, so that we recognize where You are leading us. May our only answer be, “Yes Lord”, and may we never delay in being obedient. Amen

Matthew 4:10

“Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan. For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”” There is a huge difference in knowing about God, and walking with Him. Is God your priority, or do you just mix Him into your life when it is convenient? Do you just know about God, or do you walk with Him daily?

Matthew 4:7

“Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”” We have no right to put God to a test. When we understand who God is, and who we are, the only correct response is humility.

Matthew 4:3-4

“And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”” If you say you are seeking God daily, but you are not consistently in His Word, then I challenge that God is not your priority. God’s Word will change your life by guiding every step you take. Get to know His Word and let it guide your every step. The application of His Word to your life will bring peace and joy that you cannot find anywhere else. If you are just feeding your body with food, you are just existing, but if you are feeding your soul with God’s Word, you are living. Make a vow today to truly “live” the rest of your life. We try not to miss many meals, but how often do we skip getting into the Word? Maybe that is why we often feel spiritually malnourished. How much time do you spend meditating on God’s Word, versus thinking about your next meal? Do you need to adjust

Matthew 4:1

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” The Holy Spirit may lead us to a place where we will be tempted, but He will not leave us there alone. Overcoming temptation strengthens us. Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
