“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
- If God is not the purpose of our labor, our labor is meaningless. We can try to succeed as hard as we want to, but the scripture tells us that if God is not in control, we labor in vain. Our purpose in life is to exalt the name of Jesus Christ and bring glory to God the Father. Our occupation does not determine your purpose, it determines our method. We must commit our lives to God and love Him above everything and everyone else. Then and only then will our life have meaning. A life built with the foundation of Jesus Christ will not waiver and will never be in vain.
- Who is building your house and watching over your city?
- Is your labor in vain?
- Do you ever feel like you are spinning your wheels as you try to succeed and make ends meet, or as you try to be a good husband, wife, father, or mother?
- Where does God fit into your relationships?
Dear Lord, may I remember that my life and my efforts are always in vain unless they are in pursuit of You, and may seek Your direction in every area of my life. Amen
