Psalm 127:1-2

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”

  • If God is not the purpose of our labor, our labor is meaningless. We can try to succeed as hard as we want to, but the scripture tells us that if God is not in control, we labor in vain. Our purpose in life is to exalt the name of Jesus Christ and bring glory to God the Father. Our occupation does not determine your purpose, it determines our method. We must commit our lives to God and love Him above everything and everyone else. Then and only then will our life have meaning. A life built with the foundation of Jesus Christ will not waiver and will never be in vain.
  • Who is building your house and watching over your city?
  • Is your labor in vain?
  • Do you ever feel like you are spinning your wheels as you try to succeed and make ends meet, or as you try to be a good husband, wife, father, or mother?
  • Where does God fit into your relationships?

Dear Lord, may I remember that my life and my efforts are always in vain unless they are in pursuit of You, and may seek Your direction in every area of my life. Amen

Matthew 3:10

“The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” A Christian, by claim only, is not a Christian. We must live a Jesus proclaiming life. What fruit are you producing in your Christian walk? What in your daily walk sets you apart from those who do not know Christ as their Savior? Do others want what you have because of the joy they see in your life?

Matthew 1:23

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us) All other gifts are not relevant compared to the true Gift of Christmas. Jesus is the only gift we need, and the only essential gift. He is available to all who will receive Him, but no one will benefit from a gift they refuse.

Proverbs 31:30

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” There is nothing more beautiful than a Christlike woman. As a matter of fact, the beauty of everyone is directly proportional to their walk with Christ.

Proverbs 30:8-9

“Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.” Salvation is found in Jesus and Jesus alone! Are you willing to not be poor or rich as long as you are in fellowship with God? Is Jesus alone enough for you to be content? Matthew 6:31-33 “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 “Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” Dear Lord – may I honor You with my life and may I be content in You and the path you have

Proverbs 30:5

“Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.” Amazingly enough, we wonder why God will not let us see what He’s doing in the situations we find ourselves in, yet we are unwilling to open His written word. Invest your time, focus, mind, conversation, effort, and especially your heart in God’s word. No return on investment will ever compare. How much of His truth have you hidden in your heart to guide your life? Where else would you go and where else would you take refuge, other than God’s Word? Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Ephesians 6:17 “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Psalm 119:11 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” John 17:17

Proverbs 29:20

“Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” Our own tongue is often our worst enemy. James 1:19-20 “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” Dear Lord, please give us strength to speak only what comes from You and what honors You. Forgive us Lord when we are hasty with our words, forgetting to honor You with our speech.  Amen.
