Psalm 16:7-11

“I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol (the grave), or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

  • If we are not experiencing a fullness of joy, we are more than likely not dwelling in God’s presence. Our focus determines our attitude. Even as a child of God, when we let the troubles of this world overtake our mind, we will feel defeated. In God we find peace, joy, and a future glory, because no matter the trial, situation, or the circumstance, the Lord brings peace during the storm.
  • If you attain the number one priority that you have established for yourself in this life, where will it lead you and how long will it last?
  • When you are walking with the One who created you and sustains you, why would you worry or be afraid?
  • Why would you seek peace and joy anywhere else besides from the Creator?

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Isaiah 7:9 “…. You will stand on your faith or you will not stand at all.”

Dear Lord, please help us to understand and live out James 1:2-4 so that we will not be shaken. We praise you for instructing, correcting, guiding, sustaining, and saving us from death, and we thank You for loving us and being our strength when we are weak. May our focus be on You; Your love; Your directions, and Your promises. Amen

Mark 4:35-41

“On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”” Notice the tie of fear to lack of faith. If you have accepted Christ as your Savior there is never a reason to fear. Fear is always a result of a lack of faith. Death, illness, money, other people, the future, the past, and uncertainty, are all things that people

Mark 4:18-19

“And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.” There are thorns all around us. Determine now to be fruitful today for God’s glory. May He be the object of our devotion and our continual focus. Are you letting other things in your life choke out the word of God which you have been taught? Is your soil deeper and richer than what is sustaining the thorns?

Mark 3:34-35

“And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”” Being seated in a circle around Jesus means that our focus is entirely on Him. Are you in the circle with Jesus? By your actions, would Jesus consider you to be a part of His family?

Mark 2:16-17

“And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”” When Jesus hung out with sinners, He had a message to share, and when He hung out with believers, He encouraged and taught the message they had already received. God will lead us to both groups according to His purpose for us. The group you are avoiding may be the ones who need to see and hear the message of Christ’s love in and from you. Pray before you make your decision on who you need to avoid. Are there people you have been neglecting because of their reputation? Does your conversation topic change depending on the group you are with or is your faith revealed in both groups? Matthew 10:32-33 “So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I

Mark 2:2-5

“They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”” Our does our heart compare to these men’s hearts when we struggle to even invite our friends to church, much less to share the gospel with them. The efforts of these friends demonstrated their strong faith in Jesus. We are saved by faith, encouraged in our walk by faith, assured of our eternity through faith, and at peace in all situations and circumstances when our faith is steadfast. When our faith is strong, we will have no hesitation about sharing our faith with those we encounter. Are you walking by faith? Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” 1 Samuel 2:9

Mark 1:35

“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” If Jesus knew the necessity of focused prayer for himself, how do we think we can get by without it?
