Deuteronomy 30:15-18

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess.”

  • Just as the people that Moses was leading to the promised land, we have a choice. We can accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and follow His example, or we can choose to live for ourselves, and not follow what God has revealed to us in His Word. One leads to eternal life in the promised Heaven, the other leads to eternal separation from the One True Loving God. The choice is yours.

1 Samuel 30:6

“And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.” There is one sure way to remove distress, fear, anxiety, hopelessness, and all else that burdens you. You can always find peace and strength in the Lord. Whether in wealth or poverty, sickness or health, peace or turmoil, life or death, God will provide strength and peace. Where do you find your strength? Isaiah 40:28-31 “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 “David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise

1 Samuel 26:23

“The Lord rewards every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness, for the Lord gave you into my hand today, and I would not put out my hand against the Lord’s anointed.” Our righteousness comes through our faithful following of Jesus Christ. We may not realize, or see the rewards immediately, but they are promised. Are you willing to wait on God’s timing, and serve Him faithfully, fully trusting that He will keep His Word?

1 Samuel 24:12-13

“May the Lord judge between me and you, may the Lord avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you. As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness.’ But my hand shall not be against you.” God responded to our sin by loving us so much that He did not want to see us perish, so sent His Son to die in our place. The righteousness of God is seen in you when the way others treat you, does not affect your love for them. It is not our job to “get back” at someone for doing us wrong. We have been tasked with forgiveness and love. What sets you apart as a Christian during conflict? What is in your heart when someone wrongs you, either by their actions or their words? Romans 12:17-21 “Repay no one evil for evil but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your

1 Samuel 23:1-4

“When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” he inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines? “The Lord answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces.” Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.” Before David acted, “he inquired of The Lord”. When David was questioned, or challenged, he again inquired of The Lord. If Christ is truly your Lord, you will follow Him, and you will not be someone who directs his own steps. When was the last time you asked direction from God? Does God guide your steps daily, or do you take that task on yourself?

1 Samuel 17:45

“Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”” The battles we lose, are the battles in which we choose the wrong weapons to fight with. Is the battle you are fighting one that the Lord led you into, or one you chose to fight on your on? Deuteronomy 31:8 “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

1 Samuel 16:18

“One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”” Being brave, speaking well, and being fine-looking, were all good traits, but what set David apart was the fact that the Lord was with him. Notice that David is not describing himself, but he is being described by someone else. As you look at your traits, is one of them that the Lord is with you? How would someone else describe you? Would others describe you as someone who the Lord is with? Acts 4:29 “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.”
